Text Box: Text Box: Q: What foods can you prepare with a 3-year old?

A: You would be surprised what a 3-year old is capable of! We prepare a lot of dishes where the children can relate to them, such as airplane cucumbers or sandwich trains. We decorate cakes and cupcakes—they love to get creative. We make Macaroni and Cheese, Granola, Mini Mexican Frittatas and more. I handle any and all parts of a recipe that requires the use of the stove, oven or electrical appliance...but they do the rest! And believe me, there is still plenty to do!

Q: When I cook with my 4-year old, he is always putting his fingers in his mouth. How do you handle this in class?

A: I am a stickler about cleanliness and hand washing. I start talking to the children about keeping their hands out of their mouths, nose, ears and anywhere else not appropriate, at the first class. We discuss the importance of having clean hands and they know that they are allowed to wash their hands in the middle of class if they make a mistake and touch something they should not. Another thing that comes up is the fact that we should not wear prep bowls on our heads as hats. For some reason, this seems to be the thing to do.
